About this message

The fact that Gershom and Eliezer, Moses' two sons, had not been circumcised, is clear evidence that Moses had not been bold to assume his responsibility as one of God's people. What he had overlooked was not insignificant; nor was it difficult to fulfill. The Lord forces Moses to come to terms with this fear by confronting him with something far more ultimate: his entire future depends on coming to terms with himself. As an asides, it ought to be noted that Moses has no word of authority for Pharaoh, concerning his firstborn, until Moses' own son is protected by the covenant of God.)
