The power for prayer comes with the Holy Spirit's assistance beyond ourselves, and that manifests in spiritual language. While prayer in both our natural language ("with the understanding") and our spiritual language ("with the Spirit") are important, speaking in tongues enables and empowers prayer that transcends our own capacity.
