Who among us has not felt at one time or another that we have failed God's expectations, and thus we are disallowed His love? All of us are vulnerable to closing the door of blessing by reason of fear or doubt. After the Resurrection, Peter doubts his future because of his denial of Jesus. He decides to go back to his old life as a fisherman but, encountering the Lord at the beach, Jesus asks him three times, "Do you love Me?" and then calls Peter to a new future as a shepherd, telling the disciple, "Feed My sheep." Jesus confronts one of our most human and debilitating tendencies: the inclination to be so conscious of what we aren't that we're afraid to open up to what God wants to do. John 21:1-19
